Mutant temporarily opened Mutant Gallery at Antwerp’s Nieuw-Zuid with Belgian photographer Stig De Block as its first featured artist. The expo was called “Back To Back: From Backyard to Boulevard” and is the result of De Block’s 4-year long back and forth trip to the slums of Los Angeles to capture the lowrider culture that has fascinated him since childhood. As an outsider, he created intimate portraits of a lifestyle plagued by stereotypes and prejudices.
Mutant opende tijdelijk Mutant Gallery op Antwerpen Nieuw-Zuid, met de Belgische fotograaf Stig De Block als eerste uitgelichte kunstenaar. De expo heette “Back To Back: From Backyard to Boulevard” en is het resultaat van De Block’s vier jaar durende heen en weer reizen naar de sloppenwijken van Los Angeles om de lowrider-cultuur vast te leggen die hem sinds zijn jeugd fascineert. Als buitenstaander creëerde hij intieme portretten van een levensstijl die wordt geteisterd door stereotypen en vooroordelen.
